I had let the bridge fade out of my yoga routine but put it back in a month ago. It’s amazing how quickly I could feel it making a difference in my lower back. I’ll think about some of your other exercises as well.
Great article and information! The hinge is critical for good form in daily living, as well as many strength training exercises. I'm always counseling my older clients on the hip hinge, and I love your focus on hip hinge training. Thanks for sharing this!
Such a powerful and much-needed piece, Philipp. You’ve nailed the importance of movement literacy, especially in a world hyper-focused on exercises over patterns. Loved how you wove in clinical research and client anecdotes to make it relatable and credible. This should be required reading for anyone serious about moving (and living) better.
This article is a keeper!

Great to hear my friend!
You might remember I joined a gym again in 4 years a few weeks ago.
I’ve been having fun with the hip thrust machine, cable pull throughs always get a few guy’s views, but who cares.
It’s probably a good to include a bridge version again, Tim.
Thank you for your feedback

Thank you Daria!
Your article in movement patterns for people over 55 has been a great inspiration for this!
Don't sleep on the hip hinge, friends! As we age, our mobility becomes more and more important to prioritize.
Hi! May I ask what do you think about b stance rdls with a weighted backpack?
I haven’t tried these, but since you are loading the exercise with weight, it should help build your hamstrings, glutes and lower back.
Thank you!
You’re welcome

Thank you very much for your support Sara!
It was fun writing.
This is great information. I had no idea. (and great title).
Is there a link to show a proper hip hinge exercise?
Hey Larry,
there are several links for hip hinge exercises in my article or what do you mean in particular?
